DOES YOUR GMC OR BUICK NEED A BRAKE REPAIR?
Good brakes are one of the best defenses against an accident. They give you control to vary your speed and stop when you need to. Brakes require regular services to keep them in great condition, as they will gradually age or suffer damage. When you need a brake repair, your GMC dealer is here to help. These are a few signs that we need to examine your brakes.
SIGNS YOU NEED A BRAKE REPAIR AT YOUR GMC DEALER
LEAKING FLUID
Leaking brake fluid can be difficult to see. It’s light yellow and has a similar consistency to cooking oil. You might not see a leak, but there are other warning signs. A brake pedal that goes almost to the floor when you step on it, or brakes that take longer to engage than they should are both signs of this problem.
Brake fluid is essential for your brakes, as it supplies the hydraulic power the braking system needs to stop your car. As you lose brake fluid, your car will become more difficult to stop. A leak can occur in various places, including a hole in the brake hose or a damaged seal on the brake master cylinder. Our expert technicians can trace a leak and fix it, and your brakes will work efficiently again.
THE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON
There are two brake lights on your dash, one for the ABS and the other for your handbrake. These lights come on when your engine starts and then switch off. If either of these lights stays on, there’s a problem with your brakes. The ABS is a safety feature that prevents your wheels from locking if your car skids. Locked wheels would lead to an accident. If the ABS light is on, you can still drive carefully, but we advise visiting us ASAP to fix the problem.
The handbrake light could be on because the handbrake is still engaged. At one point, every driver has left their handbrake on. If the light stays on when the handbrake is disengaged, we’ll investigate and fix this problem.
NOISES FROM THE BRAKES
Your brakes don’t make any sound when they operate. If you’re suddenly hearing clunking, grinding, or other strange noises when your brake, we need to check your brakes. The noises can be made by worn or damaged parts. If these parts aren’t replaced, your brakes won’t work effectively.
A grinding noise, for example, could be made by a piece of stone or grit lodged in the brake caliper. Each time you apply the brakes, the stone will grind against the metal caliper.
Safe driving requires good, working brakes. Come in and see us today at Bennett Buick GMC of Lebanon.
